What you can expect

Starting from Porto, you will be picked up and driven through the Portuguese countryside until you reach these amazing nature tourism structures.

Along the way to the 516 Arouca Suspension Bridge and the Paiva Walkways you will go by Arouca.

In Arouca there is a convenient stop where you can grab a snack for the way if you wish to do so. This town is famous for it’s traditional sweets!

Once we reach Areinho (one of the entrances of Paiva Walkways), we start our journey by climbing the strairway of around 300 steps and reach the incredible 516 Arouca elevated about 175m above the Paiva River.

Crossing this bridge is one unforgettable experience. Get all the information about this structure and be amazed with the views over to Aguieira Waterfall and Paiva River.

You will continue you journey follwing the path of Paiva Walkways as it follows the flow of the river through the next 8 Km.

Along the way you will be able to enjoy the wilderness and set your own pace.  Enjoy the landscapes and the moment. Relax at Vau beach mid-way through the hike and carry on all the way to Espiunca, where our hiking ends.

From Espiunca we will make a small connection to Alvarenga, where in a local restaurant we will have a great meal with the famous “Arouquesa” DPO meat (other options available).

The day ends with a comfortable ride back to Porto, where you can keep on learning about our country and culture directly from a local guide.

What our clients say about us

Beautiful trip to the Paiva Walkways

The perfect day trip from Porto if want to take a break from the city and enjoy some amazing views! We booked a last minute transfer (the night before..) with Detours and it couldn’t have been easier. Rodrigo, our guide picked us up from our apartment in Porto and drove us the 90 minutes to the entrance of the Paiva walkways (Passadicos do Paiva).
He was absolutely lovely, giving us plenty of facts about the area and even suggesting some restaurants to visit back in Porto. The walkways are stunning – about 8km of unique views along the river. It’s a really enjoyable walk, with a little beach area to enjoy a packed lunch. There’s even toilets half way round.
Once we’d finished the walk, Rodrigo picked us up from the other side. We were made to feel completely safe on the tour with hand sanitizer, extra masks and water provided to us when we were picked up. A must try trip!

Amazing!

Hiking along the paiva walkways was incredible, the scenery was beautiful and the views at the top of the stairs were well worth the climb!

I was accompanied by guides Diogo and Jonas, they were very informative, pointing out geosites along the way and explaining the natural processes that occur. One of the highlights was visiting the tiny village of Alvarenga after the hike and being provided with a huge dinner full of locally produced food and drink- best steak I’ve ever eaten!

5-star trip ad the Paiva walk ways

We had a great day together with our guide Diogo from Detours. After a ride of 90 minutes and a stop in Arouca for delicious coffee we arrived at the Paiva walkways. Diogo can give you a lot of information about the nature during the drive and at the walkways. It was a beautiful experience, we have never seen such a walkway before. The very long hanging bridge was not open but will hopefully open soon.

It is 516 meters long. After the walk we had a delicious lunch, made off all local products in cervejaria brasão in Alvarenga. They serve beefs, pork belly, fish, francesinhas and we also enjoyed a “green” wine, fresh with a little spark. We also tried the liquor Pinguça. It was a 5-star trip, so when you go to Porto take a day for this trip, you really will enjoy it. Thank you Diogo, you are a very friendly guy and you take very good care off the people you are with. The way you do your job can make or break someone’s day, you made our day! Naomi and Anja, from the Netherlands.

Tutto perfetto

Top 💯
